De la geste au geste : jeux de main et caresses dans Artus de Bretagne

Abstract : Artus de Bretagne evokes a large number of gestures, Despite the absence of a specific terminology in Middle French to express caresses, friendly or loving, the author sketches out the intimate gestures of everyday and private life. From this point of view, Artus would seem to be rather “modern”, and calls out for reassessment: it might seem less a “late Arthurian romance”, something more close in spirit to Jehan de Saintré than to the Lancelot-Grail cycle.
