Quelle métropolisation pour Alger ?

Abstract : This paper looks at the metropolization of Algiers that the national authorities seek to achieve by assigning the status of an international Mediterranean metropolis. Many large metropolitan projects have been launched in recent years to meet the basic needs of Algiers’ population. Firstly, we look at the reasons for delays in Algiers’ insertion in the Mediterranean metropolitan network and its efforts to adapt to the demands of a metropolitan status. After that, we assess the measures put into place to help Algiers become a true metropolis. Finally, we show that Algiers maintains an unbalanced relationship with its hinterland, which raises the question of the reference territory for planning the Algiers metropoli.
