L’expression de la préférence pour la consistance est-elle une norme de jugement comparable à l’expression de l’internalité ?

Abstract : The aim of the present research was to clarify the impact of the expression of the Preference for Consistency (PFC) on social judgment. Two studies were conducted (N = 71 and N = 73) in which the participants evaluated an applicant in a recruitment context. In the two studies, were examined the effect of the degree of PFC (high vs. low) and the effect of the degree of internality (high vs. low) of the applicant on the judgments. Consistent with the past researches on the norm of internality (Dubois, 2003), results showed a positive effect of the applicant’s internality on the judgments. Results didn’t reveal an identical effect of the applicant’s PFC. The main effect of the applicant’s PFC was to moderate the effect of internality. The discussion focuses on the implications of the results for the hypothesis of a norm of consistency.
