L’évaluation du risque de récidive en France : Expérience et Attitudes des Conseillers Pénitentiaires d’Insertion et de Probation

Abstract : Recidivism prevention remains a crucial issue. The aim of this study was to analyze the practice of French probation officers, working in community, regarding risk assessment. Fifteen structured interviews have been realized. Results obtained through qualitative analyses strongly indicate the use of clinical judgment. If a structural approach in the practice of French probation officers may assure a better reliability in risk assessment, a particular attention has to be paid on the way standardized instruments might be used. The perceptions of professionals have a significant impact for assessment but also for the necessary evolution of their practices
