SMARTRENNES: a French Research highlighting the way Smart City’s implementation deals with human actors, values and political trajectory

Abstract

From multidisciplinary perspective, SMARTRENNES research program aims to analyse how Smart City has been implemented in the Rennes metropolitan area (Brittany, France). Understanding how innovation is embodied is the main goal: both from a governance point of view (cooperation/competition; multiscale and multi-stakeholder perspective) and with a comprehensive study of organizations. Rennes’ Smart City project rely on technological solutions, among which the ‘3DEXPERIENCECITY-Virtual Rennes’ platform is studied. Participant observation is completed by ‘depth’ interviews with development partners (large companies, innovative SMEs, innovation clusters, academics and research teams) as well as users (departments of metropolitan government, urban agencies, associations, citizens).
