Les années 70, acmé de la modernisation des campagnes du Pays de Rennes

Abstract : This chapter, inserted in the heart of the book presenting the exhibition Mes Années 70 at the Pays de Rennes Ecomuseum, attempts to trace the main trends of this decade in the Rennes countryside. The two fundamental processes were the modernisation and the urbanisation of the countryside. Modernisation was in full swing, with its drift towards productivity in agriculture and the complete liberation of individuals from the family and village constraints inherited from the peasants civilisation. The urbanisation of spaces and lifestyles produced a certain trivialisation (e.g. the pavilion) but also material improvements and awareness (feminist, ecological) that transformed rural life. The demographic shift that began at that time marked the renewal of the Breton countryside, with the rebirth of popular Breton music as an emblematic example, far from folklorisation. Around Rennes, the countryside also became an urban one.
